I am the Andean Condor. My scientific name is vultur gryphus. I am a massive bird, one of the largest to fly. I live mostly in mountainous regions and the western coast of South America. I am an endangered species since 1973 primarly because of hunting. I am hunted for my skin and bones, but the main cause for the death of my species if the poisoning of carcasses, which I feed on. The gradual disappearance of my species has been very detrimental on the environment because, like all vultures, we play a very important role in the cleanup of the environment. Besides, I am the symbol of many countries because I represent strength, power, liberty, and majesty. I have been raised in captivity for a while now, so it is because of enormous conservation efforts that I am finally starting to appear again.
